The Racial Healing+Justice Fund makes it a priority that residents who are directly affected by racial inequity are the ones who design the strategy and govern the investment of the funds into the community.

From Forward Through Ferguson

Too often Black and Brown St. Louisans, people of color, don’t have power over the resources for community healing, justice, and transformation. Nearly six years after the Ferguson Uprising there’s an urgency to lean into the discomfort of racial healing needed to build a just and equitable society. The Racial Healing+Justice Fund makes it a priority that residents who are directly affected by racial inequity are the ones who design the strategy and govern the investment of the funds into the community.

︎ My Process

The goal of the community map was to show
how individual input (centering BIPOC voices) directly shapes the direction and future of the Racial Healing+Justice Fund. One powerful example of community voices is what Forward Through Ferguson refers to as “Community Constellations”: local leaders networking to help amplify the work and act as community guides. This concept of stars and constellations became the focus of the map to show how community voices could powerfully and radiantly come together to create systemic change.

︎ Final artwork. The color palette was changed from red to blue to better match the existing branding of Forward Through Ferguson.
